The songbird flies
where the wind may blow, to stir within your
heart,
those many years when you and I were never
long, apart.
He’ll speak to you about a chord of
love, that will not break,
and sing to you a prayer I
pray, each morning I awake.
The songbird flies
where the wind may blow to find you waiting
there.
He'll carry with him in his heart, the words I
long to share.
There have been nights when faith was
weak, and couldn't understand
how just one bird will
ever make it to this distant land.
But the songbird flies
where the wind may blow behind a Guided Light.
For
upon his wings, the God of Love goes with the songbird’s
flight.
Songbird, fly away to
her and ask her when she’ll find
her way back home,
so she won’t be a distant child of mine.
Songbird,
fly away to her and see if she is there,
and tell her
that I’m waiting while I pray another prayer.
I
watched the songbird fly away, so low, that I could
see
that he was heading southward where his journey
was to be.
I stood before my window till he
disappeared from view;
Knowing that his journey may
take years to get to you.
But one day he will
come back home, then by my side he’ll stay,
and sing
these words I long to hear. . . .
“Your daughter’s on
her way.”
