Then Love Will Do The Rest
(For Shani)

I'll try to keep you safe from harm;
I vow to do my best.
But if I lack in anything, then love will do the rest.

Thank you for your company
when days have weighed me down,
and all those times you've guarded me
when strangers came around.

You're always here within my heart;
No closer can you be.
And now I understand through you,
the love God feels for me.

I know that you don't comprehend
everything I say,
but you have kept a watchful eye
so you could learn the way.

Often, I am busy,
and I find no time for you.
It's then, the Lord reminds me
that your years with me are few.

And so, I won't betray your trust
to always do my best.
But if I lack in anything, then love will do the rest.

I'll find you at the window
waiting patiently each day,
and know you love me so
because you stare at me that way.

And when your years have been fulfilled;
As hard as it will be,
I'll look into your eyes of love,
the way you've looked at me.

I love you Shani. . .so much more
than you could ever know.
And I'll be right beside you
when it's time for you to go.

I'll know you've given all you could
and always did your best,
and though I'll walk away alone. . . .

Your love will do the rest.
