My Mammograms

I never fret or get upset when mammograms are due.
I never think of pain or fear or get depressed or blue.
This day, like any other day is all the same to me.
I’ve even heard some women say, “How lucky you must be!”

I proudly offer up myself to a cold-hard plastic plate,
for I am not the one who feels bewildered or berate.
When nurses see me coming, they prepare the best they can;
They know a struggle’s on the way for Cheryl’s mammogram.

And when the job is done and I walk out so strong and proud,
I hear the nurses murmuring among this petty crowd. . . .
“Our job is so much harder when Cheryl comes in here.
We try, we beg, we plead. . . .but nothing works for this poor Dear.”

Yes ladies, I feel lucky, and I think that you would too,
if you had triple A’s the day your mammogram was due!
