Boothill Residents

Here, you will find a list of others buried at Boothill and a note about how they died. But that does not conclude all who
are buried at Boothill. There are unmarked graves here. They don't know who they are and for some reason, these
graves did not go down in the courthouse records these people cannot be found.

 

A. Deloach-Died in 1882.

Ah Lum (Mrs.)-She was buried in Boothill in 1906.

Alfred Cantrell-Murdered in 1881 by a man named Brown, who was later hanged.

Alfred Packrel-A 24 year old English miner who died from inflammation of the bowels.

Archie McBride-Owner/manager of the Grande Hotel. He died in May of 1882 of Tuberculosis.

Ben Olleney-Shot by Chacon.

Billy Kinsman-Murdered in 1883 by a woman much older than him because of jealousy.

Bobby Jackson and Frank Hart-Died in 1882. No other information given.

Broncho Charley-Shot by Ormsby.

C.O. Ridgeway-Was found dead in his wagon on a road leading out of Tombstone in 1882.

Charles Gadela-Died in 1882.

Charles Helm-Shot by William McCauley in 1882. These men were ranchers who disagreed
over the best way to drive cattle. . .fast or slow.

Chink Smiley-Shot in 1884.

Christina B. Christianson-Died 1892.

Clum (Mrs.)-Wife of John Clum who was editor of Tombstone Newspaper and later became Mayor
and was a close friend of the Earps.

Cowboy Bill King-Shot by Burt Alvord in 1885.

Delia William-Committed suicide by taking arsenic in 1881. She was the owner of a lodging house
on Toughnut Street.

Daniel Owyer-Drowned in 1881.

Dennis Cassidine-Killed in 1870.

Deron-Was shot by John Slaughter when he was being arrested for his part in a train robbery.

Douglas Lilly-Killed in 1881. He was driving a wagon and was thrown then trampled by the horses
and died instantly when the wagon ran over his head.

Ed Bancroft-Died in 1882.

Emmet Nunnelley-Died in 1946. He did what he could to help restore Boothill Cemetery before he
died. His request was to be buried there.

Ernest Brodines-Murdered in 1882. Another native of Germany. He was found dead in his
cabin with four bullet holes in his body. His partner was the suspect, who had disappeared.

Foo Kee-Owner of a grocery store in Tombstone and died of ptomaine poisoning.

Francis Southy-Died 1881.

Frank Serroux-He was shot over a mining claim.

Freddie Fuss-A small child who drank stagnant (contaminated) water from a mine in 1882.

G. Renacco-Killed in 1882 when he fell head-first over a cliff.

George Atkins-Died 1888.

George Fryer--Died 1881.

George Hand-Killed by Indians.

George Russell-Worked for the Tombstone Epitaph. He died while being operated on for
stomach cancer.

George Whitcer-Killed in 1882 falling to the bottom of a mine shaft when the cable broke.

Gregory-Small child. Son of Thomas Gregory. Died 1882 of meningitis.

Glenn Will-Born 1871 and died 1953.

Guadalupe Robles-He gave shelter to some robbers, one of them being his brother. He was shot
by one of the officers that came to arrest them.

H.B. Cook-Died 1882.

H.C. Smith (Mrs.)-Died 1882.

Halderman Brothers-Both were hanged on November 16, 1900.

Hancock-Shot by Johnny Ringo for making a degrading remark about women.

Hans Christianson-Died 1891.

Harry Curry-Killed by Indians in 1882 with Seymour Dye while hauling hay.

Hayes-No information given.

Helentina Kohler-Died 1882.

Hilly Hickson-A school boy that injured his back when he fell while walking on a pair of stilts. The
next morning he died during a spasm in 1882.

Holo Lucero-Killed by Indians in 1882.

Hop Lung-No other information given.

Indian Bill-No other information given.

J.D. McDermott-Killed in 1882 when he and his horse fell crossing the San Pedro River, his spine
was fractured.

J. Gardiner-Shot in 1882 by Kellogg. Two other saloon men were also charged with this killing.

Jack Dunlap-aka "3-Fingered Jack."  Shot by Jeff Milton, while robbing a train Jeff was guarding.
When Dunlap was seriously wounded, his friends left him there to die. Dunlap was brought to
Tombstone where he informed on his friends before he died.

Jack King-Shot by Cherokee Hall.

James Hickey-Shot by Billy Clayborne in 1881. He was shot in the left temple after he insisted
(too many times) that Clayborne drink with him.

James McMartin-Died in 1881 of Tuberculosis.

James Tulley-Killed in 1881 from a 250 foot fall down a mine shaft.

Jerry Sullivan-Died 1881.

Jim Riley-Murdered in 1881.

John Beather-Hanged in 1881.

John Gibson-Died in 1881. A driver that fell from a wagon. His skull was crushed when the wheel
ran over his head.

John Gibson-Died 1882 from charcoal fumes.

John Gillespie-An officer sent to arrest two men who were suspected of killing M.R. Peel. One of
the men shot him in the head-1882.

John Hicks-Killed in 1879 in a saloon brawl by Jeremiah McCormick, who was a superintendent
of the "Lucy Cuss" mine.

John King-Committed suicide in 1881, using strychnine.

John Martin-Killed in 1882 by a blast of water from a pipe line that hurled a jack against his chest.

John Swain Slaughter-He and his family moved to Tombstone in 1879 and he died in 1945.

John Wickstrum-From Sweden. Killed when the well he was digging, caved in.

Johnnie Blair-He died of smallpox. One friend went on ahead and dug his grave in Boothill,
and the other, went to his cabin, threw a rope over his feet and dragged him all the way to his grave.

Johnnie Wilson-Shot by King when they discussed the fastest way to draw.

Jonathan Barton-Died 1881.

Joseph Ziegler-Murdered in 1882. He was 27 years old. He and another miner, Ed Williams, had
been arguing all day until Ed ended the arguments by shooting him.

Joshua Manada-Died in 1882.

Joshua Thomas-Shot in 1881. Mr. Thomas was a teamster and found with four bullet wounds in his
body. Indian Joe, another teamster was suspected of killing him, because both teams were found
abandoned by the roadside.

Joshua Wetsell-Stoned to death by Apaches in 1882. His friends were not far away, so they
stoned him instead of shooting him to avoid the attraction.

Kansas Kid-A cowboy killed in a stampede.

Latham Kohler-Died 1884.

Louis Daves-Died 1882.

M. Lopez-Died in 1880 while in a closed room with charcoal fumes.

M. McAllister-aka "Happy Jack" died in 1882 after suffering from a lung injury from being shot in
a fight over a piece of land.

M. McCarthy-A miner shot in 1882 by a man named "Poplin."

M.E. Kellogg-Died in 1882 of natural causes.

Malcolm Campbell-Died of pneumonia. Known as a devout and kindly Christian man.

May Doody-Died in 1881 from Diphtheria.

McNemony-Shot in 1882.

Mead-A blacksmith that was found dead one morning in the rear seat of one of the coaches-1881.

Mike Killeen-Killed by Frank Leslie in 1880. Mike Killeen was separated from his wife, Mary
Killeen, and said that he would shoot any man that he found with his wife. One night, he found
Frank with his wife on the front porch of a hotel. Killeen lost the gunfight. Frank married the widow
but she later divorced him because of his drinking. Frank Leslie also killed Billy Clayborne in a
gunfight.

Miles Sweeney-Murdered in 1880.

Minnie Dowe-1881.

Ormsby-Shot. No other information given.

Pat Byrne-Died 1882 from pneumonia.

Pat Lynch-Died 1883.

Pesquira-Killed in 1881.

Peter Crawley-Killed 1881.

Peter Smith-Murdered in 1882. He was 23, native of Germany. Struck on the back of the head with
a poker by Thomas Doland during a fight.

Pring (Mrs.)-Suicide by hydrate chloral.

Quong Kee-Manager of the Can Can Restaurant, was first buried in a pauper's grave. his friends
had him moved to Boothill where he was buried beside the friends he knew.

R.B. Campbell-Wife of restaurant owner who died suddenly of severe stomach cramps and spasms.
Suspected poisoning.

R.L. Brown (Mrs.)-Owner and manager of a local hotel that died of natural causes in 1882. One of very
few people buried at Boothill that died a natural death.

Ralph Kohler-Died 1882.

Raymond Verra-Stabbed in 1882.

Red River Tom-Shot by Ormsby.

Rodriguez Petron-Stabbed.

Rosenthal-Died 1881.

S. McFarland-Died 1882.

Sing Wan-No other information given.

Six-Shooter Jim-Shot by Burt Alvord in 1885.

Steve Brammer-Died 1882.

Stinging Lizard-Shot by Cherokee Hall.

Thomas Cowan-11 months old. Died in 1881 from Diphtheria.

Thomas Fitzhugh-Found dead in 1882 in a water closet in a lodging house on Toughnut Street.

Thomas Gregory-Died 1882

Thomas Morgan-Died 1882.

Tong Kee-No other information given.

Two Chinese-Who died of leprosy.

Unknown-He was found at the bottom of a mine shaft, well dressed and obviously not a miner.

Unknown-Murdered in 1884.

Unknown-1887.

Van Houten-Murdered in 1879. He was beaten in the face with a stone until he died. It was over
a mining claim which he did not record.

W.C. Bennett-Died of heart trouble in 1882.

W.H. Grounds-Died of shotgun wounds to the face by one of the officers sent to question him
in connection with the murder of M.R. Peel-1882.

W.M. Carpenter-Died in 1881 from nephritis (inflammation and infection of the kidney). Mr.
Carpenter was the first Baptist Minister in Tombstone. Grave was located by his son.

W.M. Summers-Died in 1882. A teamster found dead from a blow to the back which broke his
ribs and ruptured his liver.

Weiners Anton-Died 1882.

William Alexander-A prospector who was fatally injured when a blast when off prematurely-1880.

William Whitehill-Shot in 1878.

Through Tombstone's Research The Following Are Buried In Unknown Graves At Boothill.

 

Agnes Kennedy-One year old girl who was given calomel (Mercury Chloride) by her doctor and
became salivated after eating an orange-1878. Here is some information about calomel. . . .

Causes sever poisoning if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin.
Mercury compounds affect kidneys and central nervous system.

Inhaled:

Symptoms are sore throat, coughing, pain, tightness in chest,
breathing difficulties, headache, and pneumonia-like symptoms.

Ingested:
Toxic. Average lethal dose for inorganic mercury salts is about 1 gram. May cause burning of the mouth and pharynx, abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody diarrhea. May be followed by a rapid and weak pulse, shallow breathing, paleness, exhaustion, tremors and collapse. Delayed death may occur from renal failure.


Cambell-Died in 1883 by suicide.

Contreras-Murdered in 1883.

Gagelia-Died 1881.

Huggins (Mr.)-Burned to death in a hotel fire in 1882.

J.D. Dernitt-Fell in a mine shaft in 1881.

John Holly-Died 1880.

John Talliday-Shot by Thomas Harper quarreling over money in 1881. Harper was hanged.

John White-Died in 1882.

Kettlewell-Child of Mrs. Lizzie Kettlewell.

McLoon (Dr.)-Died in 1883.

Mitchell-Died in 1880.

Robertson-Two infant sons of Mr. and Mrs. Robertson are buried somewhere in Boothill.
Information given by older sister.

Rose Campion-Died in 1882 caused by a stillborn birth.

Sam Harris-One year and four days old. Buried in the old Jewish plot.

Stanifor-A stage driver who committed suicide in 1883.

Stewart (Mrs.)-Died in 1880. Said to be the first woman buried in Boothill.

Thomas Harper-Hanged in 1881 for shooting John Talliday. The evening before he was hanged,
he wrote a letter to his friend Curly Bill (the man who shot Marshal Fred White) telling him never
to be provoked into shooting a man. He wrote, "I shot a man, and after tomorrow I will be no more."
He was hanged in the old jail house yard.

William Bobbier-Killed in 1881 from a disagreement over a cock fight.
